This book is about squatters, selectors, soldier settlers, shopkeepers, school teachers, railway families, rural workers and clergymen and about the organisations into which they formed themselves to create a vibrant social fabric encompassing 175 years from the first white settlement in 1832 to the present day.

Robyn Gooden allows the familles and organisations to tell their own stories, each in its own way. She has been painstaking in her collection of photographs, memorabilia and documents. The volume is not only a valuable contribution to the understanding of the development of post-Aboriginal Australia, it is a wonderful collection of the stories and the characters which give life to the community.
